Bèrèguinia (from the verb ‘to keep’; the letter ‘g’ is pronounced like the Spanish jota (h)) is an ancient symbol widely used in Ukraine, meaning at the same time the founder and mistress of all nature; the woman-mother who protects the family, the home, the children, the language; the tree of Life.
This is how the name of the cultural association was chosen, with the aim of preserving and promoting Ukrainian culture and maintaining Ukrainian folk traditions and customs.
Since 2011, our association has been offering a range of activities linked to Ukrainian culture. Every other Sunday, we run a Ukrainian school at St Benoît de Carmaux.
We also run a number of workshops on Ukrainian holidays, such as Easter egg-making and embroidery.
For special occasions like Christmas or New Year, we organise meals. The menu includes Ukrainian folk cuisine, music and dance. Our youngest members also put on dance and song shows at other celebrations, showing off their different customs.
